December 13th, 2008  Maglite project:

A small brass adapter for converting a penlight into a spot worklight. I got this idea thumbing through the March edition of Machinist Workshop, there the fellow used parts from a camera stand, here I'm using a Starret Dial indicator stand.

Starting with brass round stock, (love the Jacobs Rubber-Flex collet) first drill then true the outside:

I use carbide insert tooling for almost everything, here the part has been cut off.

The second component, the stem, I made earlier, (1/4 inch brass rod would work fine, but I didn't have any on hand)

To join the pieces I'll first mill a flat with a 1/4 inch end mill:

The two pieces are soldered together:

I used a slitter on the mill to cut an expansion slot. Here's the upclose after polishing with a wire brush:

The adapter is test fitted to the stand:

The Maglite will slide on with firm hand pressure. Here, the assembly is complete:
