February 9th, 2009  Rockwell Bandsaw Update:

Continuing restoration on the Rockwell Model 20 bandsaw.

As received, (eBay seller picture), note the large starter enclosure on the left side of the column.

The bandsaw had to be tipped on its side and rolled in with the crane, it was too tall for the garage door.   I started stripping and priming immediately since it was easy to get at in this position.

There was alot of rust and scale on the lower parts of the cabinet, I found the best removal tool was an angle grinder with a flexible abrasive disk (DeWalt Z-60).   I only needed one.

Looks like the machine was used with a flood coolant system sometime in the past;

More rust

Never throw anything away ( anything nice .)   The blade tensioning handwheel (plastic and not original) is replaced with a handwheel leftover from an Atlas metal lathe.

Close to being finished. The gray is a custom mix and the off-white is Rustoleum Almond (tall spray can).
Painted two tone
