July, 2008 Horizontal bandsaw
rebuild:
Kalamazoo horizontal bandsaw, model 7
AD
Kalamazoo saw as found, with coolant system and accompanying layer
of hardened, painted over sludge. Note to self: avoid old
tools with coolant systems from now on.
A clue to her origins, a tough life doing hard time:
Also, a close-up of the gunk encrusted internals,
after
pressure washing twice, once at home, then at a car wash hoping
that would be more powerful.
Some extraneous strips of metal were welded inside the vise
assembly, had to grind them out.
Rebuild required for the hydraulic cylinder including new
"O" rings.
Sheetmetal needed a bit of Bondo:
The work was about 90% stripping and 10% painting and
re-assembling. New bearings through-out, including the
motor. I didn't expend much effort on the insides.
I picked beige, as it's kind of close to the color
Clausing puts on it's Kalamazoo line right now.
A test cut is made and she's declared complete.
